Experience
On and off stage, his friends and followers know Him as Roachy – and for the past sixteen years Matthew ‘Roachy’ Roach has been infatuated with playing and performing with drums.
After graduating from Southern Cross University in 2012 with a Bachelor in Contemporary Music – Roachy first made an in-print on the Australian music scene with SCU Alumni, Aussie Hip Hop Rocker’s – ‘Bats vs Snakes’ (performing at BluesFest ’12) before finding more comfort among Drum Tutoring local students in the Northern Rivers, NSW.
When 2016 saw Roachy’s talents merge with those of up-and-coming punk outfit ‘Human Dinosaur Machine’ it was time again to get serious about making quality music with talented like-minded people. Since HDM’s new birth with Roachy – the band has received National Radio air-play on Triple J for their single ‘Diary of Broken Bones’, Community Radio air-play around Australia (4ZZZ, BayFM, RTRFM) and UK online radio, reaching #5 in the Amrap Community Regional Charts for their single ‘Spaghetti’ as well as being added to the 2021 ‘Music Is Life’ Festival line-up (alongside The Angels and Screaming Jets)
“HDM are like caged tigers with broken teeth; too wild, too angry, too loud, too BIG to be boxed into a recording studio. See ’em live!” – Rob Hirst, Midnight Oil
Roachy’s unique approach to playing and performing combines high energy drumming with relaxed, confident, calculated hits, creatively-dynamic rhythms and expressive harmonic techniques – making him not only a marvel to listen to and to watch play but a mentor to His students and musical peers.
In 2020, Roachy’s creative identity as a Drummer and Drum Tutor extended into both multi-instrumentalist and vocalist with the revamp of His solo project (one manned band) ‘The Fog!’.
“I do like to rap! It’s like a drum solo with syllables!”
